Mauritius-Le Morne
The Spots
The huge standing depth beginner lagoon / kite lagoon with the finest shallow water and great panorama right in front of the impressive mountain Le Brabant.
Within the lagoon at the ‘point’ to the reef, beautiful Caribbean water colors, shallow water depending on the wind angle and swell sometimes choppy.
As the name suggests, depending on the swell (1-3 meters), very nice waves break on the smaller inner reef (little reef), inviting wave beginners and advanced riders to ride …
The “Only Expert Wave Area” Chameaux connects seamlessly to the Little Reef. The waves are already running faster, stronger and higher than on Little Reef, in addition there is a razor-sharp reef lurking under the water surface depending on the tide level … Experts with wave experience only!
Further to the right after Chameaux is the notorious One Eye … One of the fastest waves in the world … often above mast height, if you don’t get out here in time, you’ll be mercilessly pulled onto the razor-sharp reef. Professionals only !!!
To the left of the “channel” (the opening of the reef to the open ocean) is the top wave area Manawa.
Depending on the swell, the waves break 3 – 5 meters or even higher here. The advantage to One Eye, however, is the water depth of approx. 2 meters, which does not allow a wash cycle to end directly on the reef. If you do not approach Manawa too far towards windward (watch out for stones in the water), you can get off to Lee quite quickly. The Manawa wave runs very clean and slowly breaking, but you should also bring some wave experience here …
IMPORTANT: Never alone!
Manawa is about 1.5 km from the beach , The current in the “Pas de Prairie” mercilessly pulls into the open sea, especially with high swell and the associated current. You should therefore start this excursion in a group together or at least in pairs.
If you have an easterly trade winds, the Bel Ombre spot or the beautiful lagoon at Blue Bay at the airport (Point d’esny) are just 30 minutes away (approx. 1 hour’s drive from Le Morne). A huge amount of space and also fantastic water colors with shallow water make every wind and kite surfer’s heart beat faster.
However, the entrance to the beach is a little more difficult to find. The best thing to do is to ask us, we will be happy to explain the way to you.
